01/11/2008 Navy destroys Four LTTE Boats Killing Sixteen including Seven LTTE Suicide Cadres off Nagar Kovil Sri Lanka Navys elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS) and Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) destroyed four (04) LTTE boats killing sixteen (16) including seven (07) LTTE suicide cadres in the Northern seas off Nagar Kovil on 01st November 2008 around 0530 hrs. The elite SBS and RABS personnel intercepted a cluster of LTTE craft off Nagar Kovil in the early hours of Saturday and opened heavy fire immobilizing their fleeing attempt upon interception. Sixteen (16) LTTE sea tiger cadres were also reported to have been injured due to the fierce naval fire directed at the enemy. Monitoring of the LTTE communication revealed their casualty figures. Bodies of four (04) LTTE sea tiger cadres killed were recovered in a subsequent search operation conducted. Five (05) naval personnel sustained injuries in the incident. Air Force fighter jets have pounded LTTE boats struggling to each at Champion-Paththu coast after being beaten off by the Navy this morning (1st November). Air Force media spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara told defence.lk that air strikes were taken at 8.30 am He added that two tiger boats destroyed and 3 LTTE terrorists were killed in the attack, citing intelligence reports.
